Writing on Demand: Week Two
Prompt One: In the article, "May the odds ever be controversial: Hunger Games camp in the spotlight" by Randee Dawn, a summer camp is described that brings the world of Panem to life. The campers compete in non-violent versions of The Hunger Games and try to take each other's "lives" while learning archery and other survival skills.
Bringing popular books to life is a theme seen across the world. Universal Studios in Florida has an attraction called "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" that brings Hogwarts to life. It has made millions of dollars from curious tourists.
Think about a book you have read that wish you could "visit" or be a part of. Write one page explaining how you would bring this book to life just like The Hunger Games Camp or the Harry Potter amusement park. Would you make an island where only kids under 15 are allowed like the Gone series? Would it be an encore class that teaches how to survive in a dystopic society like Ashes? A haunted house based on IT?
I'm looking for your ability to take a piece of inspiration (in this case, a book) and use its context clues and details to inspire something new.

Prompt Two: This week as we discuss intrapersonal communication and talk about ourselves, it's always interesting to reflect not just on who we are now, but where we've been. Write a page telling the story of a defining moment in your life and how you handled it or have grown from it. Some ideas:
I'm looking for your ability to choose one topic and develop it over several paragraphs and your ability to reflect on an event and learn something about yourself from it.
- A time where you regret your actions or still feel guilt
- An event that changed you for the worse (i.e. an illness, accident, or death)
- An event that changed you for the better (i.e. an achievement, award, or special memory)
- Life lessons or advice you could give others based on your own mistakes and experiences
