Writing a Social Ritual Speech
Download the guides (below) and find the page that guides you through your assigned speech. Each page gives a definition of social ritual speeches, examples, instructions, and an example.
Your speech should be 5-8 sentences or 45 seconds when performed out loud. It will be a memorized speech! After you write your rough draft on loose leaf paper, allow Ms. Panther to revise it. Then, you will type your final draft without any changes from the revision process and print it. You may not make changes after it has been revised.

Award Presentation
Can you be serious? Build up the drama and anticipation? Then this could be for you!
This is what it could look like for two people wanting to work together. One person lists the nominees and gives background while the other actor or actress dramatically accepts. You use a podium and an award in this speech.
Acceptance Speech
Willing to be dramatic? Fake cry on command? Get interrupted by Kayne? (Okay, maybe not that last one!) Then an acceptance speech is for you! Have a friend do an "Award Presentation" speech and you'll act as a team! You use a podium and an award in this speech.
Eulogy
When a person has died, there is typically a funeral, wake, or memorial service where they are remembered. These speeches are often sad reminders of the life they have lived and the memories they leave behind. You'll have to keep a straight face and fake a few tears--so some acting is required!
Someone has died, and now the loved ones are gathered to pay their respects. Tears not required, but definitely recommended! You use a podium in this speech.
Toast
Whether they're siblings, or best friends, whether you're the maid of honor or best man, a wedding is not a wedding without a toast. I'll even provide the glasses of clear soda so we can really raise our glasses! You do NOT have a podium for this speech. You will have a glass in your hand.
Nomination
A more serious and persuasive tone, this is a great speech for a person who is nervous about performing and unsure about their acting abilities. You use a podium in this speech.
Nomination Acceptance
Some acting is required for this sleazy politician inspired role! You use a podium in this speech.
Announcement
Is Anchorman your favorite movie? Can you do the scene from Bruce Almighty where the man talks in gibberish without breaking a sweat? Can you keep a straight face in a staring contest? Then try an announcement! No matter how silly, you'll keep it calm, cool, and collected. You will be sitting in a chair for this speech.
Memorization
The idea of memorizing a speech seems terrifying! But have no fear--it's easier than it sounds! Here are some helpful pointers.
