Debate
What is Debate? It's just like a sport, but instead of a football game or soccer match, it's a speech competition. It has rules, time limits, and a winner. Like tennis is won by the side with the most points, a debate is won by the side that has the most and best arguments. It is not won by the side that yells, curses, or criticizes their opponent.
Below are several examples of debates from past semesters.

Listening and watching these videos, it's pretty clear that there's a script or outline that both competitors and judge know and follow. On your own or with your shoulder partner, let's figure out the "code" of debate.
Make a timeline of a debate. The timeline should start with "The Judge asks Affirmative if they are ready" and should end with "The Judge declares, "Proposition resolved: The win goes to (affirmative or negative)". Add at least six other events to the time. When you add an event, make sure to explain who speaks and what they say (either word for word if it's a script or a summary if it's not from a script).
As a class, we will synthesize our information to figure out the debate script.

Debate: The Nitty Gritty
In order to have a debate, you need three things: an opponent, a proposition, and a judge. I'll be the judge, so let's work on the next two elements!

Research
Time to build up your case! For every reason you state to support your case, you need to have a source. What makes a source a good choice?
(Least Reliable) (Somewhat Reliable) (Most Reliable)
Your opinion-----Someone Else's----Poll-----An Expert's----Facts, Statistics
Opinion Opinion and Laws
Wikis, Blogs, -------- Ask.com------Debatopedia.com, -------- .edu, .org, .gov
User Generated iDebate, ProCon.org
It would be easy to copy and paste information or write it word for word, but how is that your research?
